Mustangs Skills & Drills 2027

The Winnemucca Mustangs is a youth hockey program dedicated to growing the game of hockey in Northern Nevada. Through skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, we provide a fun and supportive environment where players of all experience levels can learn, compete, and build lifelong friendships.

WHAT THE SEASON WILL LOOK LIKE

The 2026/2027 season will focus on building strong hockey fundamentals through skills and drills. Players will work on improving their skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, puck control, and overall hockey knowledge.

Our goal is to help players become more confident and capable on the rink while developing a better understanding of the game, teamwork, positioning, and hockey fundamentals.

The Winnemucca Mustangs hockey program is currently open to players ages 5-14.

When

Our Skills & Drills season will run January through February 2027, featuring 2 practices per week.

Keeping Hockey Moving in Winnemucca

The 2026-2027 season will look a little different than pervious years. Due to limited and uncertain ice availability, we are shifting our rec league program to focus on skating, skills and player development while continuing to pursue opportunities for our players to get on the ice.

Our goal is simple: keep kids skating, learning and playing hockey together.

Season Details

Season: January - February 2027

Location: Winnemucca, NV

Format: Roller hockey / skills & drills

Practices: Two practices per week

Players will most likely be grouped into 6U/8U and 10U/12U/14U divisions based on registration numbers and player development needs.

What Players Can Expect

Practices will focus on developing the fundamentals players need to become better hockey players, including:

Skating and edge work

Stickhandling

Passing

Shooting

Game awareness

Hockey fundamentals

Teamwork

Confidence and overall player development

Practices may also include 3-on-3 games and other small-area games, giving players the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning in a fun, competitive environment.

Ice Opportunities

Regular-season ice time is not guaranteed as part of the Skills & Drills program.

Winnemucca Hockey Association will continue working to secure ice opportunities throughout the season. If ice becomes available in Elko during January or February, we will take advantage of those opportunities whenever possible.

Registration Fee: $100 Per Player

The Skills & Drills registration fee includes:

Practice jersey

Season gear rental

End-of-season Knight Monsters game ticket

Any regular-season ice opportunities secured by Winnemucca Hockey Association

Travel tournaments and other optional travel opportunities such as the Stamina Cup are not included in Skills & Drills registration and would involve additional costs.

While this season may look different than previous years, we are committed to providing our players with a positive hockey experience and continuing to build the sport in our community.

This program is about keeping players active, developing their skills and giving them the opportunity to learn and grow together while we continue working toward more consistent ice opportunities for Winnemucca Hockey.
