Winnemucca Mustangs 2026/2027
The Winnemucca Mustangs is a youth hockey program dedicated to growing the game of hockey in Northern Nevada. Through skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, we provide a fun and supportive environment where players of all experience levels can learn, compete, and build lifelong friendships.
Ages
The Winnemucca Mustangs hockey program is currently open to players ages 5-14.
At this time, our local facilities cannot accommodate a high school-aged program. However, the Winnemucca Hockey Association is actively working toward bringing a dedicated ice arena to our community, which will allow us to expand opportunities for players of all ages in the future.
We're excited about what's ahead- stay tuned for updates! 🏒💛🖤
When
The Winnemucca Mustangs hockey season begins shortly after registration closes on October 1. Practices typically start in early October and continue throughout the season.
The season generally concludes in late February or early March, depending on weather conditions and the final ice schedule. Exact practice and game schedules will be shared with families before the season begins.
Where
The Winnemucca Mustangs practice locally in Winnemucca, but games are primarily played on ice in Elko, Nevada. Families should plan for travel to Elko throughout the season for league games and ice opportunities.
Players may also have the opportunity to participate in optional tournaments, jamborees, and special events in Reno, Nevada, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and the Salt Lake City, Utah area. Participation in these events is based on player commitment, team availability, and any associated registration and travel costs.
Practices
Practices are held at French Ford Middle School and take place 2–3 times per week throughout the season.
Practices are conducted on roller blades and focus on developing skating skills, stickhandling, passing, shooting, game play, and overall hockey fundamentals. Practice schedules will be released closer to the start of the season.
Games
The game schedule will be finalized and shared closer to the start of the season as ice availability and league schedules are confirmed.
Families should plan for approximately 4–6 game weekends in Elko throughout the season. Additional optional travel opportunities, including tournaments and jamborees in Idaho and Utah, may also be available for interested players. Participation in optional events is based on player commitment, team availability, and any associated registration and travel costs.
Jerseys
Each registered player will receive one reversible Winnemucca Mustangs jersey as part of their season registration.
Additional player jerseys and custom Mustangs fan jerseys are available for purchase separately. Fan jerseys are a great way for parents, siblings, grandparents, and other supporters to show their team spirit throughout the season.
Jersey sizing will be collected after registration, and additional jersey orders will be coordinated by a Winnemucca Hockey Association board member.
Extra Costs
Your season registration covers participation in the Winnemucca Mustangs hockey program but does not include all expenses associated with the season.
Families should expect additional costs throughout the season, which may include:
- Travel to practices, games, and events
- Hotel accommodations and meals during overnight travel
- Participation costs associated with the Elko Stamina Cup
- Any additional Tournament registration fees for optional tournaments and special events, jamborees, or special ice opportunities a player chooses to participate in
Participation in optional tournaments and events may require additional fees. These costs will be communicated to families in advance and are the responsibility of the participating player/family.
The Winnemucca Hockey Association works hard to keep hockey as affordable as possible while providing meaningful opportunities for player development and competition.
